Second Life is a 3D virtual world created by the company Linden Lab.  Over 200 univeristies have a presence in Second Life exploring it as an educational platform.  There are many univeresities actually offering classes in Second Life from with Second Life itself.

I have a few of Second Life projects that are allowing me to kick the tires on SL to help me understand what can and cannot be done in the environment.

Personally, I am more excited about what virtual worlds such as Second Life are going to become in the next march of years rather than what they are now.  There are still many needed features and tools that do not exist yet that would really enable it as a robust teaching or data visualization environment.  But it is a moving target and things are changing quickly.  I will be adding various links and pages here soon with explanations of what can be done in this environment and how.  Not that I think the web needs yet another SL info site, but this is more for keeping track of my favorite links and such for my own sake.  But hey, why not share?  :-)

Oh, by the way, you can contact me in-world in Second Life via my avatar's name "Erich Bremer".  Yeah, most people don't have their real name in Second Life since Linden Lab's forces you to choose from a list of last names, but I lucked out when they offered my last name for a few weeks in early 2008.
